01.02.2018 - Thoughts on FATE and the Keys to Success

…or failure

According to Todd Henry, author of Louder than Words: Harness the Power of Your Authentic Voice and The Accidental Creative – How to be Brilliant at a Moment’s Notice, the four keys to success or failure are spelled out in the acrostic device FATE (Focus, Assets, Time, Energy). This is excellent advice for Indie authors, and it makes sense to focus on your work, create products (assets), spend your time wisely, and exert your energies toward your primary goal. It sounds very business-like, but it didn’t sit quite right with my INTJ personality. While I can appreciate the traditional description of FATE, and I actually have a post-it with these words above my monitor, I couldn’t help but peek a little bit outside the box. When I think of FATE, I also think of the following things.

30.01.2018 - How Drawing Helps Me Write.

Create, produce, problem solve…

I’ve mentioned in a couple of previous blog posts that I enjoy graphic design and use it during the development of my writing. It doesn’t just help illustrate the ideas I have in my head for others to enjoy, it has a very practical use. When I am struggling with a section of writing and need a time out to think, I use drawing as one way to clear my mind. I like it because it makes me feel I am continuing to be productive and creating something I can use to promote my brand while I am solving writing problems.

28.01.2018 - Creative Plans for 2018.

We’re nearly a twelfth of the way through 2018, already. It’s taken me just over a year to get my website up and running to a point where it’s more maintenance than creation. I’m nearly ready to put out my first full publication. This year is going to be busy for me as a writer and entrepreneur. The easiest way to get through it will be to set clear intentions as you would with any business, and we all know indie writing is a business.

28.01.2018 - 3 Ways to Boost Creativity Using Only Your Mind.

Some people seek inspiration through physical activity, going for a walk, visiting a place they have never been before, or camping out in a cemetery. But with your mind, you can have the whole universe as your plaything. Here are three ways you can use the immense power of your mind to help fill your creative well.

Title Page Banner Updated

27.01.2018 - I've updated the main image on the title page to reflect changes to the cover of The Passages of Melton Hall. I also removed the images for Alastor and Snake Goddess because they are not yet anywhere near available and I thought it misleading.

26.01.2018 - 10 Things I Learned Designing A Book Cover. A journey into the unknown…

I like graphic design. I like developing a concept and making it come to life. It doesn’t matter what it is, a logo, a business card, a website, a training presentation…a book cover. I am also a terrible artist.

Cover Design Reveal & Release update

25.01.2018 - I have finally decided on the end design for The Passages of Melton Hall and other stories. I had initially hoped to release the title this month, however my day job and an iminent house move has disrupted my plans. I am in the final stages of collation and editing, so it should be good to go by March.

BLOG Redesigned

25.01.2018 - I decided I did not like the giant wall of text on my blog page so I changed it. Individual posts are now easier to spot and follow.

BLOG updated

20.11.2017 - I have uploaded three new blog posts to the BLOG section of the web site. The topics deal with how I approach descriptive writing, what it's like to have writer's block as a disabled writer when you can't do the usual 'go for a run', 'go to the gym' type activities to spark creativity, and a brief post on a new experiment in Free Writing I am undertaking this week (wk comm 20.11.17).

BLOG up and running

12.11.2017 - The Blog section of the web site has now gone live. Click on the button below to check out the first blog post about a discussion I had with Artist Peter Richard concerning plot, setting and characterisation for The Trunk.

Facebook Author's page now live

12.11.2017 - My Author Page on Facebook is now up and running. I will use the page as a platform for notifications and a place to share interesting things I have been up to.

Busy Day!

03.11.2017

  • There have been quite a few updates today. I have finally found what I think is a good deal for copyright registration in the UK with Copyrighthouse. They have significantly dropped the price of their lifetime subscription with unlimited item registration...yes, UNLIMITED, one fee, for life. They also offer a few useful legal aids for free as well. I did go ahead and check out the company on Companies House before I signed up. They are indeed legitimate and have been going for several years now. They also have a contingency plan if they ever end up in receivership, so you won't have to worry about your registered items. If you are interested in having a look yourself, the icon and link are on left hand menu on the home page.

  • I have also got my Mailchimp email list subscription link and page up and running. The only thing missing is the live link to the FREE story download, but that is because I decided today to make it into a limited edition, full colour manuscript. Basically I have to design it and I want to give people the best thing I can...I hope to get it done over the weekend.

  • I designed the promotional material for the first novella in my archaeology adventure with a paranormal twist series. It is directly below this post. I hope to publish mid 2018, however, there will be free promotional material and sample chapters available towards the end of 2017. I'm currently in the process of gathering all the graphic design work I have created for the series, and fine tuning it. It includes such things as 3D building and room sketches, character sketches, objects, clothing, and even a character's signature and business card. All of this material will be put together in a Series Bonus Pack complete with a walk through of my thoughts and research (with citations). It will be available FREE prior to publication.

  • I've also redesigned the WRITING page. It had turned into a bit of a spaghetti pile and navigating it was far too complex. I have therefore streamlined it into three categorgies, COLLECTIONS, SERIES and STAND ALONES. I don't actually have any Stand Alones written at the moment, but I do have a broad outline for two pieces of work. You can see temporary cover designs on the WRITING page.

Have fun!

Kat.

As a child, I was sent to my room to read. I soon learned this was hardly a punishment.  My muse is dark. I write mostly  in the horror, paranormal, sci-fi, fantasy, or action/adventure genres in a variety of lengths. Some of my writing contains lesbian themes. To find out more, explore the WRITING tab at the top of the screen or visit my BLOG.
